The Origin of Iron Curtain Labs
by Magnus Ver Magnusson,
Four time World's Strongest Man Champion.

To fully appreciate the origins and the extraordinary achievements of Iron Curtain Labs you must go further back than its corporate inception in the U.S. just 7 years ago. You must trace it's history back to the Soviet Union, Romania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Poland and East Germany, during the Post World War II period and examine the economic and political climate that was responsible for its creation.

The Soviet Union was isolated diplomatically and internationally from 1918 to 1939. Despite limited resources, leaders of the Soviet Republic realized that their exhibition and dominance in high performance sport on an international level was necessary to champion their security and their lost prominence as a world power. They learned from fascist Italy and Nazi Germany that festively presented, high performance sport produces inspiring heroes, strategic distractions, and international acclaim. Consequently, the Soviets sought to perfect their performance in all sports that participated in International Olympic competition.

After 1945 with the stakes never so high, the Soviet Union prepared to make whatever sacrifices necessary to succeed. From their recruitment and subsidization of potential stars to their scientific research on principles of movement and performance, to their refinement of training techniques and equipment, Soviets exploited any and all possible influencing factors to exceed conventionally accepted limitations. Exercise classes became mandatory at the workplace. Sports academies were instituted to house and develop tomorrow's World Champions that would represent their Republic. These sports would range from the republic's politically accepted sports such as gymnastics and weight lifting to other sports that were held in contempt such as yachting due to their association with capitalism.

Slowly but surely, their strategy proved apparent with modest performances at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, followed by stronger performances in the Olympics at Melbourne in 1956, then consistently delivering outstanding performances onward.

The German Democratic Republic, once unable to secure any degree of political recognition through conventional diplomatic channels was able to claim its own flag, national hymn, and international recognition as a force through their athletes unparalleled exhibition at the Olympic Games.

The Deutsche Hochschule fur Korperkultur (German College for Body Culture: D.H.f.K.) was founded in 1952, while Leipzig was in total devastation. Dedicated solely to the development of its country's champions this institution evolved into a 100,000 seat stadium complete with state of the art research institutes and training facilities, while virtually all of East Germany's churches, libraries, and opera houses remained in ruin.

The recruitment and isolation of East German athletes commences around the ages of 4 to 6. Their physical characteristics are measured, X-rayed, and carefully analyzed to find such assets as the perfect tennis shoulder, a gymnasts bone structure, muscular explosiveness etc. Socialist German researchers have established norms for these and thousands of other traits that indicate superior athletic potential. What they look to produce are not so much students or teachers of sport but "machines" or "products" akin to what a car manufacturing plant would produce.

It is commonly known that manufacturers of computers and autos take every conceivable precaution necessary to protect their trade secrets from being stolen. Similarly, Eastern Bloc countries that resided behind the notorious Iron Curtain and dominated the sports arena, ruthlessly took every precaution to protect their secrets (proven drug formulas or effective training routines) that were largely responsible for their ascent and standing in the international community.

After the fall of the Iron Curtain, the organization and focus of the Eastern Bloc's dominance of athletic competition quickly deteriorated. The economic and political factors that surrounded the Iron Curtain and influenced its fervent participation and obsession to dominate the arena of Olympic competition were gone. Skills of esteemed coaches and sports scientists were no longer subsidized and in demand.

Since its inception in the United States, Iron Curtain Labs has found and recruited many of the Eastern Bloc's most esteemed coaches and scientists. The same experts responsible for producing the Eastern Bloc's greatest strength athletes. Scientists who, before the fall of the Berlin Wall, would have been executed for espionage if they dared to divulge any of their expertise, are now able to share all of the Iron Curtain's secrets. Secrets that their countries spent billions of dollars on to secure dominance in the politically motivated international sports arena.

Consequently, Iron Curtain Labs has established itself as an international leader in the field of professional sports nutrition and exercise physiology and has produced through no coincidence some of the strongest and most powerful athletes that walk the earth. World champions like Chris Confessore, who officially bench pressed 741 pounds at a 236 pound bodyweight. 4 Times World Strongest Man Record Holder, Magnus Ver Magnusson. They have exclusively credited their rise from obscurity, dramatic physical transformations and incredible athletic achievements to Iron Curtain Labs High Performance Nutrition and Training Systems.
